Baseshift Cloud now supports generating MongoDB Docker snapshots for local clones. Create a snapshot in Baseshift Cloud, pull the resulting Docker image, and run a local MongoDB clone for your coding agent to work against.
Snapshot generation happens in Baseshift Cloud; the clone runs locally in Docker.
Give your coding agent a database to work with
Your coding agent has proposed a fix. The next step is to run it against the data your application actually uses.
A local MongoDB clone gives the agent a writable copy to experiment with and gives you concrete results to review. Point your application or agent at the clone, run the proposed change, and inspect what happened before deciding what to apply to your live environment.
Use a local clone to:
- Test queries and aggregation pipelines. Run the agent's proposed query against a copy of your data and check the results.
- Try document updates and migrations. Execute a transformation, inspect the affected documents, and test how the application behaves afterward.
- Reproduce bugs and check fixes. Give the agent the data context it needs to investigate a failure, then run the application's tests against the clone.
Generate the snapshot in the cloud. Run the clone locally.
- Generate a MongoDB Docker snapshot in Baseshift Cloud. This prepares the snapshot you will use for local clones.
- Pull the Docker image and launch a local clone. Follow the snapshot's instructions to run the MongoDB copy in your local Docker environment.
- Connect your application or coding agent to the clone. Run queries, test changes, and inspect the results.
The snapshot provides a reusable starting point, and each clone keeps its own changes. You can start another local clone from the same snapshot to try a different approach or repeat a test.
Baseshift Cloud handles snapshot generation. You run the MongoDB clone locally.
